WHY SATHVIK

Veganism is gaining popularity. Whether for ethical, environmental, or health reasons, many people are turning away from using animal products. It’s easy for anyone to know what Sathvik (RIGHTEOUS) foods are if they understand that Sathvik (RIGHTEOUS) foods are rich in prana or life force. This means fresh, and even though it’s a common term, it means as organic as possible.

We, as human beings, can consciously change the levels of strength in our body and mind. By altering the presence and influence of external objects, lifestyle and thoughts, we can increase or decrease the quality. Whichever attribute is predominating will affect how we perceive the world around us. Similar to this we have an old saying “जैसा खाओगे अन्न,वैसा होगा मन।”

Based on the philosophy, we have three kinds of food.

1. Sathvik– The essence of Purity and Harmony Sathvik manifests itself as purity, knowledge and harmony. It is the quality of goodness, joy, satisfaction, nobility and contentment. It is free of fear n, violence; hence it is the mode of goodness.

2. Rajas– The property of Passion and Manipulation Rajasik represent itself by passion, action, energy and motion. Rajasik are characterized by a feeling of attachment, a longing for satisfaction and desire. If you want to decrease the level of Rajasik, avoid consuming rajasic foods like fried and stimulants such as caffeine. Hence the mode of passion.

3. Tamasik- Tamasik manifests itself as impurity, laziness and body, avoid eating tamasic foods (e.g. alcohol, meat, processed food), indulging (e.g. overeating, oversleeping, etc.). Hence the mode of ignorance.
